Owi/Butet, they often called, actually had advantages after winning the first game although they had been left behind in the middle of the set. The turning point where Owi/Butet took over the first game occurred when managed to collect nine points consecutively and finally grabbed a victory.
The persistent China's pair made the second game even more difficult for Indonesia's pair. Tontowi made several mistakes that gave advantages to China's pair. Owi/Butet was even left behind 7-2 as they tried to catch up.
They struggled to have the score 10-10. Unfortunately, They then lost eight points in a row which allowed Xu/Ma take the lead, 18-10 and won the second game. The battle continued to the third game, the decisive set.
Xu/Ma who performed more confidently made the third game seemed to be imbalance. The China's pair battered the Indonesia's pair with shots and applied various tempo, consequently, Tontowi/Liliyana were playing under pressure and left behind with a significant gap, 11-3.
Tontowi/Liliyana tried to catch up but their effort was not good enough to turn things around as the final result was Xu/Ma's triumph, 21-15.
"We were under pressure so whatever we did seemed to be wrong, while they were dictating the match and the rhythm," Liliyana said after the match.
The result continues to add OWi/Butet's list of not being able to be a champion in Indonesia Open tournament.
