Jacco Arends Eases Lee Yong Dae/Shin Seung Chan's Advance to Semifinal

JAKARTA - Battle in the quarter final in mixed doubles between Lee Yong Dae/Shin Seung Chan and Netherland's Jacco Arends/Selena Piek was interrupted after Jacco had a severe pain on his left shoulder as he fell down when the score was 11-8 for the South Korea's pair in the second game.

The first game itself was thrilling and the Korea's pair won the game Game with 21/17. It was a disaster for the Dutch players at the second interval. Jacco fell down when he tried to return a shot. Regarding the incident, he wrote on his Twitter account that he regrets he has to give up fighting to semifinal of Indonesia Open 2014. "Unfortunately had to retire. I dove in a weird way and felt felt something pop in my left shoulder. Couldn't lift my arm after that...," said Jacco.

Jacco's injury blow is an advantage especially for Lee Yong Dae who had to play two matches in quarter final. Yes, previously, in men's doubles, Le Yong Dae paired Yoo Yeon Seong succeeded in stunning Malaysia's pair, Boon Heong Tan/Wee Kiong Tan, in a three set battle, 14-21, 21-6, and 21-19.

Lee Yong Dae who always attracted the crowds' attention with his looks, managed to qualify to the semifinal in two different categories. In mixed doubles, he and Shin Seung Chan will take on Denmark's mixed doubles, Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen, while in men's doubles, Lee Yong Dae with his partner, Yoo Yeon Seong, will face Cina's powerful doubles, Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan.
